The Zildjian G16AEBS1 is a box set which includes the 14" Hi Hats, 18" Crash, 20" Ride and the controller. This is the Box set 480. The Zildjian Gen 16's use mics instead of triggers and they look and feel great. However they are louder than traditional rubber electronic cymbals because well they are metal and you kind of have to expect that. The other issue is because these use real mics they can pick up other loud sources nearby. So if you in a situation where you have really loud stage volume maybe not a good fit. The catch is if you want to be really quiet these won't work for you either as they are not quiet. Because of the way they are built they sometimes look warped or uneven. This is normal and a side effect of having so many tiny holes drilled in them.

Today I upgraded my DCP with the most recent versions of firmware and modeling algos. This time I do see a marked improvement. The presets were limited to 20 in the prior release, but they now go up to 26 with the upgrade. The 6 new presets are called 'Fat Series' and they seem to be a measure to address past comments regarding an overall 'thinness' of the tones in general. At this point I would guess that the quantity of presets will continue to increase opening up many more possibilities. I still love the feel of this instrument - happy to own it.

These things are a joy to play. The feel is great. The sounds are, well..pretty good. I downloaded Gen-16's first firmware upgrade and really saw little or no improvement. I guess I feel that they really could have jammed a bit more into that silver-box controller with the pretty blue lights. Be careful of misinformation regarding the Gen-16 "Vault" being compatible with AE. This is false.
