VH-13 Hi Hat Calibration for TD-27, TD-30, and TD-50

So you got a VH-13 but you need to know how to get it working right on your module. Follow these easy steps and you will be playing in no time. It's a slightly different setup for the different modules so be sure to read the instructions for your module. Also be sure to check the pro tip at the end.

TD-27

  1. Turn the module on, making sure that the hi-hat pad isn’t resting on the motion sensor.
  2. Press the SYSTEM button, use the cursor to select TRIGGER, then press ENTER.
  3. Use the jog wheel to select the trigger to VH13, then press the F5 (OFFSET) button.
  4. Loosen the hi-hat clutch so the top pad rests on the bottom pad, then press the F5 (EXECUTE) button. The module will automatically calibrate the hi-hat to your hi hat stand.
  5. Once complete, press the DRUM KIT button to exit, then tighten the hi-hat clutch.
    • Make sure that there is a small gap when tightening the clutch for a more natural feel.
  6. You may need to redo this if you change spring tension or make adjustments to your hi hat stand. It's also a good idea to redo this if you move your kit for a gig or practice to a new location.

TD-30

  1. Turn the module on, making sure that the hi-hat pad isn’t resting on the motion sensor.
  2. Press the TRIGGER button, then press the F3 (HI-HAT) button.
  3. Use the dial to select VH-13, then press the F4 (OFFSET) button.
  4. Loosen the hi-hat clutch so the top pad rests on the bottom pad, then press the F5 (EXECUTE) button. The module will automatically calibrate the hi-hat.

TD-50

  1. Turn the module on, making sure that the hi-hat pad isn’t resting on the motion sensor.
  2. Press the Trigger button, press the Page (UP) button, then press the F4 (HI-HAT) button.
  3. Change the Trig Type to the VH-13, then press the F5 (OFFSET) button.

  6. You may need to redo this if you change spring tension or make adjustments to your hi hat stand. It's also a good idea to redo this if you move your kit for a gig or practice to a new location.

Adjusting additional VH-13 settings

To fine-tune the VH-13 hi hat control settings even further, go back to the Hi-Hat settings menu. You can adjust the Foot splash sensitivity and the noise cancellation ( the velocity to eliminate hi-hat strokes when the foot pedal is closed ). If necessary, you can also manually adjust the offset, as well.

Pro Tip: Make sure the short cable connecting the top and bottom hats is folded to one side and lays flat. If it's not the cable itself can prevent the hats from fully closing. So if you move your kit around and set it up keep an eye on this.
