Roland TD-30 V-Drum Module
The TD-30 is a new V-Drum module that replaces the TD-20 and TD-20X. The main new features are newer and better Supernatural sounds, USB and USB/MIDI, more control over ambience, and a new Hi Hat functionality. The new VH-13 hi hat cymbal boast better open and closed control and better playability over previous models. The TD-30 has the most inputs and outputs of any other V-Drum module so this is the one to get if you want to have a large kit or have direct output capabilities. The TD-30 also builds on the previous generations modeling technology to give the most realistic playing experience while also being the most customizable module to date. With several 3rd parties making kits for the Roland modules you should also be able to easily expand on the internal factory kits without much effort unless you want to program your own kits. Even programming your own kits is a ton of fun once you get the hang of it.
The TD-30 features vastly improved trigger response, dynamics, and positional sensing. All good things! The Snare Drum has a smoother transition in sound reaction between head shots and rim shots. The snare was good before on the TD-20 and TD-12 now its even better. The cymbals were good on the previous models but now with the TD-30 you have even better dynamics for delicate playing, swell rolls, or powerful crash shots. The ride cymbal CY-15R-MG has enhanced dynamics and positional sensing. They also trigger better than ever on the bell and bow. Generally when playing fast open rolls, flams, or ghost-style, single-handed buzz rolls, the sound remains continuous between each hit. And press/closed rolls sound even smoother with the snare buzz resonance reacting in a natural way. A huge improvement is noticed when combining the VH-13-MG hi hat and the TD-30 module. When playing the hi-hat from a fully open position and slowly closing it, a more smooth transition in sound is achieved. Playing in the half-open position or even in a slightly open position, the sound remains constant. And the foot-closed sounds and foot splashes are easier to control. You also have more control over ambience by taking advantage of more powerful built in DSP. On the TD-30 module there is now a dedicated fader for the overall ambient balance. For recording drums in the studio, placement of the overhead mics is a must to guarantee a natural presence and brightness in the sound. You can adjust the room size and the room mic position within a choice of room types that include a concert hall, studio, club, arena, etc. A new customized reverb has been specially created for the snare, kick, and toms, helping them to blend together inside the music in an even more natural way. Each pad can have its own compressor and 3-band graphic EQ, just like in a recording studio. New multi effects include insertion effects like the saturator or a flanger. And, as in the studio, the final sonic touches can be realized with a powerful stereo compressor and a 4-band master EQ.
